r/ableton on Reddit: As a beginner, is pro L 2 worth getting?

16 votes, 71 comments. Just trying to get my stuff louder, but I only end up distorting my low end. I know a lot of this just starts with a good mix… It’s not worth buying it if you don’t know how to use the stock limiter yet… I believe you will benefit way more by studying and practicing game staging, which is the only secret of mixing if it can be called a secret… I always advise not to buy anything, effect or instrument, if you don’t know why you were doing it. The rule of marketing in the music industry is to enlarge the feeling of insecurity, so you think the problem is your gear and you the buying that secret weapon that will make you sound like exartist…I personally wouldn't put much stock into "gain staging" as described here. It's a favorite of YouTuber music types but a lot of actual professionals say it doesn't matter in most cases. Only certain analog modeling plugins expect a certain level of gain, not most or all plugins like the above commenter said.Loudness comes from the right sounds/samples and the mix. If the low end is distorting when hitting the limiter you probably are mixing the lows too loud. Concentrate on producing. Leave mastering the final mix to a mastering engineer. Use reference tracks to balance your elements against a pro mix.Just echoing all the other comments saying not to focus on plugins, but learn how to arrange & mix as best as you possible can, then it would make more sense to try mastering your own stuff, but also consider finding somebody else (a different set of ears) to handle that part of the process.

L-Pro Filter = Less detail? - posted in Beginning Deep Sky Imaging: Ive been imaging with an unmodified Canon 6D for the last three years. I finally took the plunge and bough my first filter; the Optolong L-pro clip in. I shoot from a Bortle 6-7 and was hoping to take advantage of some of the light pollution filtering for better and longer exposures. Also, there is a lot of reflection nebula and dust in Orion - that are broadband targets and will be cut off by the LP Filter, same as the light pollution. And lastly, a huge chunk of Orion emits in a part of the spectrum that your unmodified camera is not sensitive to. That the L-Pro lets that pass much better than the light pollution is of no use for you. With no Moon I would not use a filter. The L-Pro helps when the moon is out. Also with a filter you need to add some exposer time then without a filter. With no filter I can take a washed-out 60 sec exposer but if I use a filter like an l-extreme I would take 600 sec exposer and have great detail in it.Now, compare those values with the L-Pro's graph. See what colors are blocked? Now look at the two images presented in the first post. See a correlation? Missing violet? Check. Missing indigo? Yup. Some missing blues?

Optolong L-Pro (L-Professional) is a multi-bandpass filter which selectively suppresses the transmission of light pollution lines. For example, mercury vapor lamps, high and low pressure sodium vapor lights and skyglow caused by emission from neutral oxygen in our atmosphere. L-Pro enhances the transmission of major emissions from nebula while offering great colour balance with its wide yet effective light pollution cutting transmission band. The balanced transmission allows objects with wide emission spectrum such as galaxies to be imaged with minimal colour cast (easier to correct in post-processing).View or edit your browsing history After viewing product detail pages, look here to find an easy way to navigate back to pages you are interested in.Help others learn more about this product by uploading a video!Upload your videoAmazon.com : Optolong L-Pro 1.25" Mounted Round Filter : Electronics

FabFilter Pro-L 2 Limiter Review | TapeOp Magazine | Tape Op Magazine

In-depth review of FabFilter's Pro-L 2 limiter plug-in featuring enhanced algorithms, intuitive GUI, and professional limiting capabilities for mixing and mastering engineers. With features shared among the FabFilter line (stereo or mid/side processing, dual-ring gain controls, user preference tweaking), Pro-L 2 includes one of the most pleasing graphical user interfaces on the market. In the past, I've used the original Pro-L when clean gain without clipping was required, but I rarely chose it over other titles we've covered in Tape Op for final limiting. There are many enhancements, with more than half a dozen new features in this release. Check it out on their website, especially if you are concerned about multi-channel support, side-chain filtering, or DC offset filtering. Cool additions are new processing algorithms and true-peak limiting. The three new limiting algorithms cover more situations and showcase the flexibility of Pro-L 2: the Modern algorithm retains snap and attack while avoiding overloads, the Bus setting is more evident to the ears but better suited for stem work, Safe mode means no distortion, ever, and is an excellent choice when you want a ceiling for classical music or other "invisible-mastering-engineer" projects.I know many of you are getting a chuckle out of a brickwall digital limiter that doesn't offer true-peak limiting, but there is a technical explanation. Traditionally, to provide transparent limiting without aliasing, there is a risk that a peak, or an inter-sample peak, will exceed the user-defined ceiling.

Optolong L-Pro clip filter EOS review - posted in DSLR, Mirrorless & General-Purpose Digital Camera DSO Imaging: Hi to all. I became the owner of the Optolong L-Pro filter and did some testing with DSLR camera. This interesting filter perfectly preserves the balance of colors and reduces light pollution.Oh, color balance with CLS filter it is problem for me. The green and blue channels are very similar, so in fact we get bicolor (H-alpha + OIII + H-beta). To get acceptable white balance, I use automatic color balance with Registax 6 or Fitstacker. Stars lose their color, but in the conditions of light pollution more important for me to get the nebula.Filters: Optolong L-Pro, Svbony CLS.Some tests of L-Pro and CLS filters.

Optolong L-Pro Filter Review - Natural Star Colors in City Light Pollution!

My full review of the Optolong L-Pro filter for astrophotography. The L-Pro is a great choice for broadband deep sky targets like the Pleiades. I'll share my results using the 2" round mounted version with a telescope, and the Canon clip-in version with a camera lens attached. I’ve always had trouble collecting images with an accurate representation of star color when imaging from the city. It’s something I spend a lot of time correcting during the image-processing stage of my projects.I’ll be using this filter with a Canon 5D Mk II to capture the Pleiades star cluster through a compact refractor telescope. I’ve chosen this target for the L-Pro because I want to showcase its ability to produce natural-looking images of broadband astrophotography targets from the city.My backyard sky before and after using the Optolong L-Pro filter · In this post, I’ll show you the difference between shooting unfiltered with a stock DSLR and with the Optolong L-Pro.If you’re like me in a red zone, the L-Pro will help when capturing broadband targets such as galaxies and reflection nebulas. If you’ve been capturing deep sky images from a light-polluted location and have experienced harsh color casts in broadband targets like the Pleiades star cluster and Andromeda Galaxy, the L-Pro may be the solution you’ve been looking for.

L-Enhance 2 Quad or L-PRO for galaxies - Beginning Deep Sky Imaging - Cloudy Nights

L-Enhance 2 Quad or L-PRO for galaxies - posted in Beginning Deep Sky Imaging: I know for galaxies best is dark skies. But that said, say I am in Bortle 5 or 6 skies, which filter will be good for galaxy captures ? L Enhance 2 Quad filter vs L-PRO? Or anyother. Any filter will do two things to galaxy light. It will block some of it, reducing the available signal. It will introduce distortions into the color. Not good. What is the right tool? Gradient reduction in processing. Instead of using color to sort out light pollution, it uses the spatial pattern of light pollution to identify it, and reduce it.No (not so) magic light pollution filter used, just gradient reduction. That what you're looking for? Astro Pixel Processor has an excellent gradient reduction tool, as does most every astro specific processing program. It's an essential tool, I use it on every image, including the filtered ones.I shoot on the edge of bortle 9 and still only use UV/IR for galaxies with good results. LP Filters destroy alot of the data and colors. With decent enough processing skills and enough integration time you should be able to get acceptable results on broadband targets without LP filters.Anyway, Cuiv tested all the galaxy filters in his channel and I believe he is still voting for a simple UV/IR cut, which I never understood exactly why it would be better than no filter at all, I think it helps control stars blowup, but I don't think it helps with the DSO at all. Anyways I tested the no filter, UV/IR and L-Pro and to my taste the L-pro gave me a bit of an edge on the contrast on the ASIAir software, probably not much if at all after stacking.

Finally got some time with it on Saturday night and Im pretty happy with it - all things considered I got more M31 then I expected. With so much moon/skyglow this initial test was at gain 0 and 90 second exposures.
